Woody: Colorado's Most
Experienced Fishing Guide

Ask Woody how long he's been fishing and he'll give you a simple, weathered smile: "A long, long time."

From his early days on Vermont's trout streams to over 25 years as a U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain, Woody's life has been defined by the water. Before moving to Colorado, he ran offshore longline boats chasing swordfish and tuna—a high-stakes discipline that taught him to read shifting conditions and find fish when there are no guarantees.

Now one of the Roaring Fork Valley's most decorated guides, Woody has logged over 30,000 miles on the oars and earned a reputation as "a fish's worst nightmare." His accolades include three Upper Colorado Fall Classic wins (Guide Division) and serving as a Sector Judge for the World Fly Fishing Championships.

Whether navigating the Colorado, the Eagle, or his home waters on the Roaring Fork, Woody's mission is to put you in the right place at the perfect time. When he isn't behind the oars, he's likely at his vise tying flies or walking the banks with his two dogs. For Woody, the river isn't just an office—it's home.

Client Stories

From the Boat

"I've fished with a lot of guides over the years, and Woody is simply in a different class. His knowledge of the river — every seam, every shelf — is remarkable. We landed 14 fish before noon. The kind of day you talk about for years."

James R.

Denver, CO

Full-Day · Upper Colorado

"Neither of us had ever fly fished before. Woody had us both casting confidently within the first hour and Tom had a 20-inch brown in the net by 9am. Patient, funny, and genuinely passionate about these rivers. Already booked our return trip."

Sarah & Tom B.

Chicago, IL

Full-Day · Upper Colorado

"I had one morning free during a work trip and Woody made the most of it. The raft was immaculate, the gear was top-notch, and he put me on fish immediately. If you're in the Vail Valley and have any interest in fly fishing, stop reading and just book it."

Marcus D.

Houston, TX

Half-Day · Eagle River

"The Roaring Fork in fall foliage is a spiritual experience. Woody's calm, expert presence made the whole day feel effortless. He anticipates what you need before you know you need it. The lunch was also genuinely excellent — a nice surprise."

Claire H.

New York, NY

Full-Day · Roaring Fork

"We've done guided trips in Montana, Idaho, and New Zealand. The Colorado with Woody belongs in that conversation. Incredible water, incredible guide. The scenery alone through the canyon stretch is worth the drive."

Dave & Lisa K.

Phoenix, AZ

Full-Day · Lower Colorado

"Woody has fished at the highest competitive levels and it shows. His reading of the water is almost uncanny. He explained the why behind everything — the hatches, the presentation angle, the mend — and I left a better angler than I arrived."

Patrick O.

Boston, MA

Half-Day · Eagle River

"Wow what an amazing two days. Woody is so great at what he does. The day before we ever come up he goes out on the river to scout out the best fishing holes. We did one day on the Colorado River and I did not think it could get any better. So the next day he planned to take me on the Roaring Fork, which was just as great. Been fishing with Woody forever and just when I thought I could not get any better, it did. Thanks Aspen Angling Company."

Kim S.

Full-Day · Colorado & Roaring Fork

"Had a great day on the water with Woody yesterday, caught a bunch of nice fish, including a monster brown, great coaching on how to approach each drift and just really enjoyed the relaxed vibe."
